Prof. Maria Siemionow is an internationally renowned surgeon and scientist specializing in microsurgery, reconstructive transplantation, peripheral nerve surgery, and regenerative medicine. In December 2008, she led the multidisciplinary surgical team at the Cleveland Clinic that performed the first near-total face transplant in the United States.
Professor Siemionow has authored more than 400 scientific publications and 120 books, and has supervised the preparation of four collective scientific works. She is also the inventor of eight patents.
Professor Siemionow graduated from Poznan University of Medical Sciences, earning her MD and PhD in Medical Sciences in 1985. She obtained her habilitation degree in 1992 and was awarded the title of Professor of Medical Sciences in 2011 in Poznan. Throughout her distinguished career, she further advanced her expertise through training and research appointments in, among other countries, the United States and Finland. For nearly two decades, she served as Chair of the Department of Plastic Surgery and Microsurgery at the Cleveland Clinic College of Medicine, where she established herself as a global leader in the field of reconstructive transplantation.
